Glenn Turner Appointed Uddingston Hockey Club Recruitment Ambassador for Australia & New Zealand
Uddingston Hockey Club is delighted to announce the appointment of former Australian international player and Olympic medalist, Glenn Turner, as the club’s recruitment ambassador in Australia and New Zealand.
Glenn was introduced to the club through Uddingston’s Director of Hockey, John Bessell. When the club set out to identify someone who could serve as a role model for young players while also helping promote Uddingston internationally, Glenn quickly emerged as the ideal candidate due to his playing career, experience and global connections.
In his new role, Glenn will promote opportunities to play and coach at Uddingston Hockey Club across Australia & New Zealand. This will include engaging with club and university players, as well as both current and former international players, encouraging them to consider the opportunity to develop their hockey careers while experiencing life in Scotland.
Glenn was also particularly interested in Uddingston’s University Scholarship programme with Strathclyde University, which offers student exchange at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – with up to 40% scholarships available and full scholarships an option when paired with employment.
Having already spent time in Uddingston during the 2025/26 season, Glenn has experienced the club environment first-hand – including its facilities and the culture around the club – placing him in a strong position to share that experience with players considering a move abroad.
Director of Hockey John Bessell said:
“Uddingston have welcomed many players from various countries over the years and have developed a programme that has allowed them not only to play high level hockey, but has also allowed them to study, work and travel as part of their time in Scotland.
We see Glenn as being a fantastic ambassador for our club due to his amazing international career and his network across the world, with us very excited about him lifting our profile.”
The club looks forward to working with Glenn as we continue to strengthen our international links and welcome new players to Uddingston.
