Uddingston Hockey Club are delighted to confirm John Bessell as their new Director of Hockey, with John joining the Club after a long career in Australia and most recently in Belgium.

Speaking on his decision to join Uddingston, John shared:

“I’m pleased to share that I’ve accepted the role of Director of Hockey at Uddingston Hockey Club. From the outset, it was clear that Uddingston has serious ambition, a strong club culture, and a desire to keep evolving. The vibe around the place is positive and purposeful – and it felt like the right fit for a new challenge.”

Club President Allan McGill added:

“As a club we had been looking for someone with a wide range of experience both in terms of performance hockey and development of senior & junior players. John came highly recommended and from the first discussion it was clear that he was very driven and understood the project at Uddingston, which in turn made him an ideal fit for our club.”

Over the past 30 years, John has built a wealth of experience in elite-level sport, including high-performance hockey environments such as the Euro Hockey League, the Belgian Honour Division, and national teams preparing for major tournaments and the Olympics. In addition, he has worked within professional football, including involvement in Champions League campaigns, gaining valuable insight into high-performance systems and elite sporting cultures.

These experiences have shaped his approach to the game, and as a club, we’re excited to welcome his expertise. We look forward to him bringing that insight to a team that’s hungry to grow and ready to take its next steps.
