Steven is no stranger to Uddingston Hockey Club, having previously served as Director of Hockey and Gents 1s coach during his earlier tenure at the club. Since then, he has taken on the role of Ladies 1s coach at Glasgow University, where he led the team to a Top 6 finish in the Scottish Premiership in the 2022/23 season. More recently, Steven was the Men’s 1s Head Coach at Western Wildcats for the 2023/24 season, achieving notable successes including an infamous win in the EHL KO16 against TJ Plzen-Litice of the Czech Republic and securing the Men’s Premiership Grand Final victory against Grange, which returned Western Wildcats to the EHL for next season. Steven is also currently coaching within the Scotland Aspiring Boys programme and will be involved in the upcoming 8 Nations competition in Malaga this July.

The Ladies 1s at Uddingston are approaching the new season off the back of a successful season last year, with a joint-highest finish in the Scottish Premiership, a run to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, as well as achieving promotion to the Premier Division of the Scottish Hockey Indoor for the first time in the club’s history.

On his appointment to the role, Steven said; “I am delighted to return to Uddingston, this time working within the woman’s performance programme. The club and facilities are a fantastic place to be, and I’m excited about the journey ahead and helping the team and the club achieve its goal of becoming the top club in the country. I am looking forward to meeting the playing group in due course, many of whom I’m already familiar with, and getting to work on developing our performances.”

The Ladies 1s had a great season last year, and I am sure that under Steven’s guidance the programme will continue to grow from strength to strength, as we look to continue to take the club, and everything we do here at Uddingston, to the next level. I look forward to welcoming Steven back to the club for the start of the new season and look forward to working alongside him to progress the Ladies 1s programme.”
